Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Craig McViney, Co-Founder of Haskill Creek Farms, located in Whitefish, MT, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Our business is Haskill Creek Farms. We are a modern wellness mercantile with an emphasis on medicinal herbs, including but not limited to hemp and cannabis. Our target demographic is women ages 30-50, but our customers are everyone who is looking for a unique shopping experience. We source clean, sustainable, and ethically sourced products that support a healthy lifestyle and home. When we started this business, we knew that the cannabis space, in particular, can be daunting and overwhelming for many people, and we wanted to change that. At Haskill Creek Farms, we were able to create an experience that was gentle, inviting, and educational for anyone and everyone. All while supporting our mission of "growing a better tomorrow, for people and the planet."

Tell us about yourself

I first developed the dream of this business when I noticed many people wanting to take an alternative approach to health care, specifically with the use of cannabis. Many of these people did not feel comfortable entering a dispensary to get their medicine or felt as though access was limited. I not only wanted to create that space for them but offer alternative herbs, adaptogens, and other products to help them reach their goals. Seeing our client's faces when they enter our mercantile light up because they finally found what they were looking for keeps me at it every day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The success and happiness of our employees. When I started this business, I wanted to create an enjoyable atmosphere to work in and be around. It is extremely important to me that the people that work here want to be at work, feel heard at work, and can achieve their own personal goals. Here at Haskill Creek, I feel as though we have created that as a team.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is developing a positive relationship with failure. Not everything will always go your way. You are winning if you can learn from your failures and turn them into successes.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Surround yourself with positive, motivated employees, and always listen to them. They're the most powerful tool you have to succeed in your business. If you give it your all, and your heart is in it, you will do well. Always be learning!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

We're committed to high standards for all of the products that we create in-house. With each new product or process, we think about how it affects not only the product but the consumer, our business, and our employees. Being unwavering in our commitment to the best possible products with the highest quality ingredients allows us all to be proud of and stand behind everything we do as a company. We've carried these same standards across the other items we source for the store. When you come into Haskill Creek, you should feel confident in anything you're buying because we've already done the legwork for you.
