Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in coaching but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Yasmin Abouelhassan, Founder of Happy Family Relationship Coaching, located in Calgary, AB, CA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Happy Family is my business. It's the right for each and every person to have, yet it seems to be harder and harder to find. From this single unit, life emerges and spreads. This is my fascination, passion, and dream that every person creates their happy family. Couples are the core component of a happy family, yet singles are equally responsible for this creation. My customers are those yearning to live happily with their significant others, strengthening their bond through life events and daring to live happily day in and day out.

Tell us about yourself

My divorce was the spark that opened my eyes to the lack of foundational education and practical, doable steps that sustain success, happiness, and fulfillment in relationships. Despite being foundational, it has to have this element of tailoring that fits each and every couple according to their own story and challenge rather than having void teachings that assume one size fits all. With a culture that loads the wife with all the work needed to create a happy family, I was determined to help her take the load off, create her own formula and choose a conscious partner who is willing and determined to co-create a happy life that can only get better by the day.

Witnessing the transformation of couples from the heaviness of frustration and despair to glowing up in hope, then rekindling their connection and re-bonding consciously yet gracefully is the highest is beyond fulfilling. Being a catalyst in sustaining this relationship that started between two strangers at a time and became the strongest life bond is what motivates me each day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

As a single mother, abandoning my corporate job to pursue my dream of Life and Relationship Coaching as a business in Egypt and the MENA region 17 years ago before the profession was heard of is my biggest accomplishment. I introduced a whole concept to the masses, and it took more than 10 years for the profession to be known.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Believing when you can't find physical evidence. Following your passion and trusting oneself as well as the universe. Being true to oneself and not getting swayed by "How others believe you should live your life,", especially as a "responsible single mom."

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Connect with yourself. If you follow other people, you'd be certain to get lost. We are each very unique, and each has a unique calling. Uncovering this calling takes self-knowledge, understanding, respect, and connection. The most important relationship is with oneself, so keep this connection alive. That's how you are sure you are on the right path.
  2. Create your vision. While people can connect to themselves, they forget they have a vision of how their life should be, what it looks like, and what it entails. Believe in this vision, see it, and create it. Create it in words, write it down as detailed as you can, add to it every day, visit it frequently and talk about it to everyone. Not seeking approval but exercising feeling it. See it through pictures, photos, drawings, and visualizations; keep it real to your eyes and heart. Keep it alive.
  3. Follow your heart. Once your vision is clear and it's connected to your core self, the paths open up. Follow your heart and choose your path. All paths are good. All paths are right. Only each will take you through a unique route. When you follow your heart and choose the path, trust that it is the best path for you and keep going.
