Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Hannah Stojanovski, Founder of Hannah Stojanovski - Mortgage Agent, located in Ajax, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a Mortgage Agent, and we help people in all different situations to reach their mortgage goals!

Tell us about yourself

I started my own business because I was passionate about helping people make the biggest purchase of their lives, but I was outgrowing my previous position, and I felt I could do more to help people by doing it my way. I also wanted to set my own hours so I could be there for my kids.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner would have to be building my amazing team! My team is an incredible support. They allow me to focus more on the things I want to invest my time into, like talking with clients, and less on the things I don't, like social media.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest parts about being a business owner is putting myself out there. I'm naturally an introvert, so when I was first starting out, cold calls were really hard! Now that I'm more established, I still find it challenging to do presentations, but it's also so rewarding, so it's worth it.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Work-life balance can be hard to navigate. I've learned that it is important to make sure you set aside dedicated time for both and minimize the amount of time trying to do both at once!

My second piece of advice ties into the first - set boundaries and stick to them! If weekends are your family time, don't allow clients to book on those days. This can be really challenging, but it helps grow your business into one that is perfect for you.

I would also strongly advise using tools and asking for help! Websites and apps can make certain tasks significantly easier and faster, and you can't excel at everything, ask people who are better than you at the tasks you don't prefer! This applies to hiring also; hire for your weaknesses! The more time you have to focus on the parts of your business that you love and excel at, the better!
