Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Patrick Hammond, owner of Hammond Chiropractic Center, located in Overland Park, KS, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Our customers (patients) are typically those that want to continue to do the things they love but are limited by a physical issue. Whether it's playing golf, playing with the grandkids, or achieving new goals, we help get them to their goal.

Tell us about yourself

I wanted to become a Chiropractor from a 1st hand experience with back issues to was corrected by a Chiropractor. That was my motivation from that point on; I wanted to help people in a natural setting. I liked the idea of no medications, no surgery in helping people get back to themselves. People motivate me and our practice. The look on the patient's face as they feel better and do something they haven't done, in some cases, for years.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Practicing for 25 yrs and seeing the long-time patients continue to do the things they love. Now seeing their kids and grandkids as a thriving practice, and the overall feel that they trust me with their loved ones. It's very rewarding.

The other one is being the Chiropractic Consultant for 20 years for the Kansas City Royals. Being a part of a professional sports/organization and helping them in a different setting and seeing the success at a much higher level.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Bringing energy and enthusiasm every day. We all have things in our personal lives that can consume us and take our energy in a different direction. Learning to separate the business side from the personal side and keep it balanced and bring energy and enthusiasm to both.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be ready to work and work smart.
  2. Do not be afraid.
  3. Love what you do, and customers will see that.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Business in all forms can be overwhelming but be prepared mentally and physically for the challenges. Be willing to learn from others, even in your own field. It's ok to not know everything and be a sponge from those that are more successful and those with more experience, but know the younger professionals are intelligent and allow yourself to learn from them as well.
