Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Julie Landry, Founder of Halcyon Therapy Group, located in San Antonio, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Halcyon Therapy Group is a boutique private practice offering a modern approach to mental health care. We offer concierge therapy services to adults and couples as well as executive coaching, ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, and psychological assessment and testing.

Our clients are high-achievers and professionals. They’re typically people looking for increased privacy, personalized attention, flexible scheduling, and/or more intimate forms of therapy. We currently see clients in person in San Antonio, Texas, and virtually in 31 states.

Tell us about yourself

I am a board-certified clinical psychologist, former Army officer, and the first concierge doctor of psychology in San Antonio. In addition to general adult concierge services, I specialize in relationships and couples therapy. Our goal at Halcyon is to provide comprehensive concierge mental health care with an emphasis on optimizing wellness and performance. I’m also passionate about helping other psychologists, and mental health providers grow their practices.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I launched Halcyon on June 10, 2022. Within six weeks, the practice was fully booked. It’s rewarding to see all of this effort pay off. Now we’re expanding!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

So far, the biggest challenge has been finding balance. There’s always something to do, and typically things require a quick turnaround. It can be overwhelming at times and leave little room for personal commitments. This has improved over time, but I didn’t anticipate just how much time and effort it would take to get things started.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do your homework and be prepared. Research the market and your competitors. Read articles and books, listen to podcasts, and seek consultation and coaching. Be an expert in whatever you’re doing.
  2. Develop a plan. Execute it quickly and efficiently. Do it before you feel ready. Once you’re up and running, you can adjust and adapt.
  3. Manage your time wisely. Be thoughtful about the opportunities you pursue. Outsource everything you can so you’re able to focus on doing the things only you can do.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Believe in yourself. Doubt, anxiety, and imposter syndrome will all creep in. Find allies that will remind you this is normal, and you should persist. Look to other business owners for recommendations and support. Do the same for them.
