Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in training and education but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Cameron Hacault, CEO of Haland Learning, located in Burnaby, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Haland Learning is a training agency that designs and delivers training courses. Our customers are organizations that require custom or standardized training for their workforce.

Tell us about yourself

I started in adult education in the late 90s while working in the Navy. My first course to teach was the two-day military first aid course.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I have a hard time acknowledging accomplishments. Our sights are set on ongoing learning, improvement, and excellence.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Being able to turn off. I'm 100% passionate about everything we do, and it may consume me at times. And, of course, the financial stress of expenses, unpredictable income, and clients that don't pay on time.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get money IN first.
  2. Aim for excellence.
  3. Be honest and generous.
