Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Damian Barresi, of Hal and Al Meats & Provisions, located in Hauppauge, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Founded in the summer of 2018, Hal&Al has been spreading the concept of premium zabiha hand slaughtered meat (halal) to the North Eastern United States and beyond. Hal&Al Meats and Provisions combines the passion of two friends who strive to bring premium hand-slaughtered meat to the U.S., the likes of which have never been seen before. We founded Hal&Al with these three notions. Quality, Trust, and Variety.

Tell us about yourself

With all of the lying and cheating surrounding zabiha hand slaughtered meat, we were tired of the Muslim community being stepped on. We wanted halal consumers/restaurants to be supplied with some of the best quality proteins on the market and given the best customer service, whether it was through one of our restaurants or our home delivery subscription service -  (https://www.halandalmeats.com/pages/membership).

Our motivation is knowing our customers can live guilt-free lives knowing their meat comes from a trusted USDA and Halal Monitoring Serviced facility.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Our biggest accomplishment as a company is supplying over 1.2 million pounds of Halal Meat to restaurants and families in 2021. We are directly and indirectly supplying thousands of families with high-quality halal meat.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Finding great people and scaling the business. We are a rapid growth company, so we have to be careful to change our processes accordingly at each stage of the company.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Focus on your goals; you started your business with a purpose, stick to it, and let it be known. It's a great message and inspiration for your customers, and lastly, always search for new ways to innovate.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

You can find some of our Hal&Al products in local supermarkets such as Key Foods and C-Towns, but we also carry a full line of retail products like burgers, hot dogs, steaks, and kitchen essentials on our website Halandalmeats.com. We recently just launched our subscription service to deliver halal meat monthly to our customer's doors, and the feedback we've gotten from our customers has been nothing short of excellence.
