Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Melanie Hill, Founder of Hack Your Human Design, located in Austin, TX, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
So as a Human Design Guide, I help women entrepreneurs build a business that they love, that's sustainable, that can be scaled with ease and fun, and is centered around their value system and not the value system they're told they're supposed to have, so their business can not only be fun but also much more lucrative in the long run. I work with people who are ready to have a soul-led business that lights them up in every way and makes a big impact in the world.
Tell us about yourself
I discovered Human Design a couple of years ago. I heard about it from a few different coaches that were talking about it, and I was like, "Okay, what is this?" so I looked it up. And I was like, "Wow, this is really accurate!". It was incredible. And so I hired my first Human Design mentor, and it was just so amazing. It has helped me do so many things, but it has mainly helped me trust myself. And that is how I was hooked. Ever since then, I've been like, this is my thing. I have to do this. I have to help other people understand and love themselves deeper.
What motivates me each day to do what I do is my mission to help other coaches and healers take back their lives and their businesses so they can build something sustainable and fun. No more burnout and quitting! Coaches and healers are desperately needed right now in the world. The more people I can help be successful on their terms, the more people get help all over the world.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
For me, my biggest accomplishment as a business owner has been leaning into who I am and deciding to trust myself FIRST over all other voices. This has resulted in me building a business of ease, trust, and flow that is not only fun, but I get to be myself and make an amazing income doing what I love to do.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
I would say believing in yourself. At first, it seems impossible, like there's no way anyone is going to pay you for your expertise or service. Then you have every voice imaginable trying to sell you their system or blueprint or make-money-now program, and it gets really hard to be yourself and find your unique voice.
Plus, all the conditioning and programming of the world teach you how to put your trust in someone else, not yourself. Things like, "Trust that the corporation will give you security and a paycheck because you can't rely on yourself. That's irresponsible." So deciding to go all in on your own ideas can seem really ill-advised, but it's what it takes to be a successful business owner.
This is one of the reasons I love Human Design so much is because it is like a shortcut to helping you give permission to believe that you can be you and be successful. It's like the ultimate blueprint and permission slip to be who you came here to be in the world.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Learn to trust your voice above all others. This also includes making sure you know that it's your voice you're listening to and not the beliefs and programming you were given since birth.
- Build an ultimate support system around you that feels good to you and can take over the things you don't love doing or drain your energy. This could be family, friends, a housekeeper or nanny, a coach or mentor, a therapist, or all of the above. The more help, the better!
- Learn and embody your Human Design. Use this amazing tool to create a business that feels amazing every day, not just when you reach a milestone or a goal.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
There is nothing you need to fix or change about yourself to be successful at what you do. The more you can stop fighting with yourself and love yourself exactly where you are, the faster your dreams will come true. You can trust yourself and your own inner knowing. It just takes bravery to try it out and see the proof. Don't give up. Your sacred gift is needed in this world more than ever!
