Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Gurjeet Khaira, Founder of Guru Kitchen + Bar, located in Edmonton, AB, CA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a locally owned and operated business. We are proud to be serving Edmontonian and other guests from around Alberta since 2008. A fine dining Indian restaurant that Edmonton has never seen before.

Tell us about yourself

GURU is not a business for me; it's a passion. I like to put forward the best way east Indian food can be represented. Unique presentation with innovative cocktails is my forte. My cocktails speak for themselves. Every drink has a story behind it. If I don't have a connection or a story for a cocktail I don't make it.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Putting GURU restaurants in number 1 positions in the east Indian category and top 10 in Edmonton. It doesn't stop here. We want to be on the Canadian food map and not just in Alberta.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Challenge to exceed expectations. Educating guests that an ethnic can also be served and presented in a way beyond imagination.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Follow your dreams, passion, and honesty.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

It took us 12 years to make our name. It was never an easy journey; we are still learning and growing.
