Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health & wellness, but not sure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Marsha Hebert, CEO/COO of Eat for Life by Marsha Inc., based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Tell us all about your business...

Eat For Life By Marsha is a Canadian health and wellness company specializing in creating nutritious gluten-free and dairy-free recipes offered in cookbooks, magazines, and recipe packs. We also provide classes and wellness products to create more ways to be healthier and happier guilt-free. We make it easy and develop more ways to stay healthy.

What's your background and motivation to grow as a solopreneur?

I was diagnosed with Anemia at age 12 and suffered for many years with gluten and dairy intolerance. In my early 30's I became aware of Celiac causes and symptoms. Since then, I have been on a gluten and dairy-free diet, which has shown tremendous improvement in my health.

My passion for helping others achieve success with their health has brought me to create and share my gluten-free recipes and educate others on more ways to eat gluten-free that are nutritious and delicious. I credit my daughter as my inspiration and commitment.

Every day, what motivates me is how to Eat for Life by Marsha can make a difference in people's lives to not suffer from diet-related diseases.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is watching Eat For Life by Marsha having an impact on people's lives and health. Also, as a business owner, it is to have a team that truly believes in what we do. They fully embrace the company mantra "be more, grow more, and enjoy what we do."

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a solopreneur?

One of the hard things is financial challenges. Not having enough funding to generate enough inventory and market at a level that reaches our target audience promptly.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run or grow a small business today?

  1. Find something that inspires you to be more, grow more, and enjoy what you do.
  2. Maximize your super skill, the genius in you that the world needs.
  3. The only competition is within you and the promises you make. Persistence, perseverance creates a legacy. If all you can do is all you can do, get it done!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Life is always on your side, and it presents many opportunities. The question is, how many do you want in a lifetime?
