What's your business, and who are your customers?
We offer educational classes for children ages 2–10. Our preschool classes are activity-based and help prepare children for kindergarten. We also offer art classes for children ages 5–10 years old. Our customers are families who want to bring learning opportunities to their children from the convenience of their own homes.
Tell us about yourself
I started Growing Brilliant to give young children a head start on their learning. As a former elementary school teacher, I understood the importance of early childhood education. I wanted to develop a fun program for parents and children to engage in learning together.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Over the past ten years, we have opened four in-person locations and grown our at-home learning program. A national brand acquired our in-person sites in 2021. We continue to focus on our at-home learning program. Another significant accomplishment for me was obtaining my doctorate in education in 2018.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Ensuring your vision is shared with other people in your organization and that customers understand all that your company has to offer. This is where communication is vital, either between leadership and key employees or through marketing and the messages you convey.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Understand your customer and what they are looking for.
- Choose something you are passionate about and know about.
- Build a strong team around you.
