Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in fashion but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Blake Welch, Co-Founder of Groovy Things Co, located in Frisco, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Our company makes socks, patches, and other accessories. Our customers are stores that buy our products wholesale & people that like funny socks and purchase on our online store. The majority of our business is wholesale, around 98%.

Tell us about yourself

When I was in college, my brother, mom, and I decided to start Groovy things co because we saw other sock companies out there, and none of them had funny & unique designs that we liked. We started the company and launched our first socks soon after. What motivates me is being able to continue to grow our company; we’re only in year 3, and I can’t wait to see what we accomplish next! I want to continue to get into more stores and set a goal to get into 1,000 by the end of the year.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is getting our products into over 800 stores throughout 8 countries. When we started, we weren’t in any stores, and to look back and see how far we’ve come is amazing!

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing is there’s always something to do, and it’s hard to really take time off. I love what I do, so it doesn’t feel like work, but taking actual time off and not working is hard for me to do.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Three tips I would give someone looking to start a business are:

  1. Commit to launching the company and follow through with it. I know a lot of people that talk about having their own company, but they never actually do it.
  2. Early struggles are a part of every business, and if you are able to learn from them, they will help you grow.
  3. Enjoy the process; it’s definitely a grind, but as you grow and grow, you have to enjoy it and celebrate the small accomplishments.
