What's your business, and who are your customers?
Greer's OC is an online lifestyle publication and newsletter for people who want to know the latest in fashion, dining, and trends. My subscribers and followers like to know what's new and exciting in Orange County.
Tell us about yourself
I started my business in 2006 after being laid off at The Los Angeles Times. I was one of the first to start a local website in Orange County because I knew there was a need for people to stay informed on the best in lifestyle opportunities: new restaurants opening, retail stores, art, music, fashion, and charity-related events. There's always something new to share with my following, and I love to help local businesses. That's exciting and motivates me.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I've been a business for 16 years, and I think that's a great accomplishment. I've also expanded into helping small businesses and nonprofits by running their social media accounts. I've enjoyed learning a new profession since I started my publication.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Having so many responsibilities all at once. And not having paid vacations, but there are a lot of perks, too.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Study the market really well.
- Prepare for the worst, just in case.
- Learn something new every day.
