Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Mike Glick, CEO of Goode Health, LLC., located in Columbus, OH, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Goode Health delivers customized nutrition based on user information - survey and/or blood test for now, adding wearables soon. This nutrition is loaded with plant-based proteins, prebiotic soluble fiber, powerful polyphenol antioxidants, and the CORE8 Micronutrients that most Americans are missing in their diets. Customers are those looking to maintain/improve their health via a daily superfood smoothie shake.

Tell us about yourself

I have been working in the nutrition industry for 15+ years, beginning with Abbott Nutrition for ten years, where I worked on Similac, PediaSure, Pedialyte, and Ensure. For the past five years, I have focused on building more niche nutrition businesses in food allergy prevention, plant-based kids products, and now customized nutrition. My motivation is simple - I want to be part of the solution to improve the health of Americans - helping them to identify what nutrient gaps they have and fix them with the right products while making them accessible (lower priced than others) to more and more people.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

So far, the biggest accomplishment is being willing to pivot based on the environment around us - whether that was during COVID, based on the latest market research, or with the current economic downturn, Goode Health has a strong plan and is continuously moving forward.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

In the business of making and selling consumer products, there are many challenges to keep me up at night. But the hardest is building awareness of Goode Health, why we're different, and getting to the next level of growth.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be different - if there is not a very clear differentiation between you and your closest competitors, you won't get anywhere. The team here at Goode Health has done the work across 20+ competitors to evaluate how exactly we're different/better.
  2. Be bold - be bold with who you are, don't back down, and consistently drive home your message. Goode Health makes a superior product to others, which also tastes better and is less expensive for our customers. We will strive to maintain this at all times.
  3. Be quick - you need to move and test things at lightning speed, evaluate, make a quick decision, and move to the next level. This goes across product development, brand messaging, agency partners, etc.
