Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Will Tate, Managing Partner of GoldSpring Consulting, located in Cross Roads, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

GoldSpring is an indirect procurement consulting firm assisting organizations in managing their travel, meetings, and other indirect expenses through our four cornerstone practices: strategy, sourcing, implementation, and ongoing program management.

Tell us about yourself

I started in public and private accounting as a CPA, practicing mostly in business process improvements. Moving from internal audit to becoming the travel manager for my company required managing global travel spending from 40 different countries set me on this current journey.

I've been a travel management consultant for the past 23 years and have engaged in hundreds of client projects. The dynamic nature of the travel industry, combined with forward-thinking clients, inspires me daily to innovate and solve current and future issues.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Engaging with smart customers who desire novel solutions to move their travel programs forward. Additionally, assembling and assisting the GoldSpring team of consultants continues to be incredibly satisfying. The GoldSpring partners are invigorated daily by two main areas.

First, the client's satisfaction with these amazing team members is always a high point. Secondly, enabling the individual consultant's growth is a tremendously satisfying experience.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The administration of running GoldSpring. We so enjoy the nature of our work with delightful clients that the daily grind of managing the business (payroll, taxes, etc.) is acceptable.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Choose great people to work with. They imbue your culture, sharpen your focus and deliver great client results.
  2. Adapt. Many of the things we do today are new services that did not exist three years ago.
  3. Listen. Both clients and co-workers have tremendous insights that could easily be missed in the busyness of it all - take time to engage and learn.
