Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food services but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Nate Smouse, Owner of Golden State Chefs LLC, located in San Diego, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are Golden State Chefs, a personal chef company serving those looking for unique, one-of-a-kind dining experiences.

Tell us about yourself

We were a product of the pandemic. After being let go from work like so many others and having a pregnant wife, there wasn't much left to do. I would say my wife and three kids are my main motivation for doing it every day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

When we started throwing the idea out there about starting our business, we had many friends and family doubting us. To be able to fully support all of us for two years now is our biggest accomplishment.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Finding a work/life balance can be tough. There's always something to do; it's not always cooking.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. If you're going to do it, do it all the way. Deep dive.
  2. Utilize all resources you can to get yourself out there.
  3. Do some research first so that way when you do it. You do it right the first time.
