What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business specializes in Executive Leadership Coaching & Consulting Services. Individual professionals and Organizations are my customers.

Tell us about yourself

Hi, I'm Emily Golden! and the founder and CEO of Golden Resources, a coaching and consulting firm. I help today's emerging leaders and executives shift underlying beliefs, find their sweet spot, and bring newfound value to their careers.

As an expert in emotional intelligence in the workplace, I incorporate my years of corporate human resources experience in my high-performance coaching practice. I am familiar with executives' challenges, including time management, overwork, and the potential for burnout. My clients emerge re-energized, equipped with the tools that help them create a balanced and meaningful life inside and outside work.

In over 20 years of working in recruitment and talent acquisition for major corporations, I have seen brilliant, talented, and highly driven people feel held back by their inner doubts and self-judgment. Bright stars that let buried wounds and the sting of unwarranted critiques impede their trajectory. BUT WHAT IS AMAZING IS THE TRANSFORMATION that occurs when these same people are given the clarity, direction, and tools that allow them to not only recognize their greatness, but to communicate it confidently and utilize their abilities in their career, their relationships, and beyond.

In a corporate setting, I can see an individual's superpower and identify their gifts that would make a difference in the organization. Matching talents with ideal positions produced outstanding results for the company and the individual.

Today, I help high performers discover meaningful professional and personal growth by giving them the tools and steps to overcome their inner doubts and self-imposed limitations. I stand for my client's commitments and vision while holding them accountable for generating results.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Achieving my Master Certified Coach distinction through the ICF in less than 5 years. This is a distinction only 4% of certified coaches worldwide have the honor of receiving. As an MCC, I have not only coached hundreds of people; I am coaching at the highest level of competency the ICF distinguishes. I am very proud of this! And also proud to say that I continue to learn every day. The more I know, the more I learn there is to know. Second to this accomplishment is running a multi-six figure coaching business. Over 90% of coaches are out of business within 2 years, and few that survive the past two years reach the six-figure mark.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Running one's own business comes with a predictable mental and emotional rollercoaster. Some months sales are down, some months they are up. Some months investments in the business are high, and other months they are lower. Growing my business has required stepping outside my comfort zone, moving through limiting beliefs, and leaning into support. Having a coach of my own, sometimes more than one has been the secret to my success. I believe so deeply in the power of the work I do!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get clear on your vision for the business and how you will know you've gotten there. What's your why, and how will you measure success? Without this clarity, it's predictable that you'll lose motivation and/or become burnt out.
  2. Know your values and the business' values. Run your business accordingly; otherwise, you will likely feel disconnected and misaligned with it.
  3. Empower support by hiring a coach. Drop the story that you can't afford it! You can't afford not to have someone you trust in your corner reflecting on how you're getting in your own way and supporting you to breakthrough. Consider it mandatory if you want to thrive as a business owner!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

The pivotal moment in my life that led to my career transition was the diagnosis of my eldest child with Tourette Syndrome. The shocking diagnosis had me rethinking everything I knew, asking questions of myself I had never asked. I realized that I wanted to be doing work more aligned with my core values of generosity, making a difference, transformation and love. It took me about 5 years to make the transition to coaching. During that time, my youngest was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome as well. It wasn't a straight line to get there, but it was one of the best decisions I've ever made.
