Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jessica Flammer, Founder of Golden Pelvic Health, located in Golden, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a physical therapist, and I specialize in pelvic floor physical therapy. I treat both men and women for urinary dysfunction, such as urgency, frequency, leakage, and pain, as well as bowel dysfunction, such as constipation. I also treat pelvic pain, such as pain with intercourse, and other conditions, such as vulvodynia, painful bladder syndrome, endometriosis, and prostatitis. I treat pregnant individuals as well and then again in the postpartum period. The pelvic floor muscles are a group of muscles in the base of the pelvis that plays a role in posture, stability of the core, as well as bladder and bowel functions, and are often overlooked in individuals with persistent low back pain, sacroiliac pain, and hip pain.

Tell us about yourself

I have been practicing as a physical therapist who specializes in pelvic floor rehabilitation for about ten years now. I struggled with painful periods and persistent low back pain that never improved with traditional physical therapy. I knew pelvic floor rehab was the missing link. I am motivated each and every day by my patients who show up ready to learn and work on healing their bodies. I started my own practice in order to provide one on one care to my patients by treating them all for an hour in order to look at them from head to toe.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Spreading awareness about pelvic health in my community and getting to help my patients along their pelvic health journey.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Trying to balance the demands of running a business while staying present and involved as a mother to my two little boys and my wonderful husband.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get started today, and don't put it off out of fear of failing.
  2. Hire a business mentor to help you get started and encourage you along the way.
  3. Take time to take care of yourself too.
