Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in software development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sverrir Steinn Sverrisson, Co-Founder of Godo, located in Reykjavík, Iceland.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Godo is an Icelandic software company. We develop software solutions for the travel industry, including hotel management systems and related solutions. Our customers are hotels, guesthouses, Airbnb's and travel agencies.

Tell us about yourself

I am 44 years old, born and raised in Iceland, and I have been in this business now for ten years. We are two friends who decided to dig into the tech environment for the travel industry in 2012 when the Icelandic travel industry was booming. We were operating a small hotel together and could clearly see the need for more automation in most processes related to hotel bookings.

What motivates us every day is mainly to do better for our customers and to bring in and develop first-class problem-solving solutions for hotels and travel agencies. For example, when we release software, add-on's and upgrades to our customers/partners and we know firsthand that the release will make the life of the hotelier or travel agency a bit better, that feeling is what motivates us to move on and do even better.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is for sure being a part of a team that has created a warm and nice workplace for almost 80 people in Europe.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Maintaining sustainable growth and achieving set goals for the company can be hard in a business environment where competition is hard. But with a great team, the rewards overcome all hard work.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find the right people to work with. Trust is number one always.
  2. Never stop, no matter what. If you have faith in your idea and you have the right people surrounding you, the tides will turn in your favor eventually.
  3. Enjoy and have fun. Doesn't make any sense to start a business unless you enjoy the ride. Work hard and play harder.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Love & Peace!
