Tell us about yourself

Finding the stillness within has long been my source of strength. The practices of yoga and meditation supported me in accessing my inner quiet place. They calm my busy mind and harmonize my emotional well-being. But during a very disruptive transition time in my life, I felt the need to expand beyond these practices. With perfect timing, I was introduced to Reiki as a healing method to complement my meditation. I utilized Reiki, mindful living, clean eating, exercise, a healthy mindset, and meditation in my daily personal life for many years.

With the stressors of divorce and single parenting, coupled with working two jobs- one as a full-time corporate executive and the other a start-up Wellness Center, these holistic practices provided much-needed peace while chaos surrounded me. I quickly learned the importance of integrating them all into a healthy lifestyle. I offered inspiration for these practices to my clients in my counseling practice. Watching the benefits of holistic approaches encouraged me to continue and expand my business practice as a Holistic Life Coach.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I feel successful every day when I see my clients move from feeling stressed or stuck to living a life of purpose. With my guidance, they become more mindfully aware and make healthier lifestyle choices, leading to a life of greater joy and happiness.

I have supported over 8,000 clients throughout the past 30 years and taught holistic practices to more than 5,000 students internationally. Author of award-winning The Reiki Journey: Guided Meditations for Mindful Living CD now in its 3rd printing.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Being a solopreneur offers great freedom, yet it can occasionally feel isolating due to the lack of team feedback and connection. I balance this by increasing my social life and outside support system.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don’t drop the “day job” too soon. Create a bridge, especially financially, between what you are doing now and the new business you are creating. This will help you avoid over-stressing yourself and your new business.
  2. Find your ideal client and focus on them rather than too broad a base. We can’t be all things to all people.
  3. Be organized and set goals for yourself and your business. Be sure to include self-care goals, so you don’t burn out!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Building your own business can be challenging. Choosing a business around a product or service you are passionate about helps drive you to show up to the business, grow and expand. Just as it is important to maintain wellness in our personal life, a holistic approach to our business keeps it healthy, dynamic, and ever-expanding.
