Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in photography but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Gina Ayanna, Founder of Gina Ayanna Photography, located in Ajax, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a brand and beauty photographer based in Ajax, Ontario. My customers are busy professional women(40-55) who understand the importance of projecting the right image to attract the right clients for their business.

Tell us about yourself

I am a mom of two girls, a lover of inspirational quotes, a foodie, and a bookworm. I have always been passionate about photography because my parents were and grew up surrounded by photographs. As I got older, I realized the importance of visuals and the power when combined with good copy. What keeps me going is showing my daughters it is possible to turn your passion into a profitable business.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I've had some cool assignments over the years; I've photographed a celebrity and a CEO. However, my greatest accomplishment is that I am still here doing what I love and keeping the lights on. Running a business is a challenge, and a few great milestones don't make you successful. It's the consistent work that I am most proud of.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing that comes with being a business owner is the ebbs and flows of cash flow and managing your money effectively so that when you're in a slow period, it doesn't feel like the end.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Know your why.
  2. Live below your means.
  3. Keep going. (This shit takes time and hard work).
