Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Eric Goodman, owner of GF Creative, Inc., located in Fort Mill, SC, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is a boutique design firm aimed at helping business owners that care about how the public sees their company. This comes by way of visual communications, such as websites, marketing, and advertising.

Tell us about yourself

I got started in the graphic field when I was 18 years old. I worked for many pre-press and graphic design firms in New York City, handling high-exposure advertisements for world-known companies.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

To be able to say that I am succeeding in my own decision-making. I'm a small business owner that has survived so many waves of recession, and COVID lockdowns, outlasting bigger corporations in my field that have gone under. That has to add up to something of value.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Surviving the low points has to be the hardest part of being a business owner. It's not like working for a company and always receiving a paycheck every week. There have been times that I would go without, which could put extra pressure on my wife to provide. Luckily there is light at the end of every tunnel.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

My advice to anyone looking to work for themselves is to have a real plan. Not knowing the mission and the game plan ahead of time can squash it very quickly. Factor in your own business model and what it will take to get potential clients to notice you. Not being afraid to utilize experts that can give you the tools you need to sell your business.
