Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in beauty and cosmetics but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ashley Whetung, founder of Geti Cosmetics, located in Trail, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I started crafting natural bath & body products in 2018 after a health scare forced me to take a serious look at the products I was putting both ON and IN my body. I wasn't able to find products that met my standards, so I created my own line of personal care essentials that are gentle on the body, planet & wallet.

Tell us about yourself

When I saw what clean ingredients did for my previously sensitive skin, I knew I had to share the love with others - and it's the loyal customers who keep me going on the extra-long days.

To everyone who's sent a message in the last few months to let us know that they "don't use anything else," I see you & I'm here for you!
I'm expanding my line and knowledge every day, so get ready for some truly unique stuff coming up.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Growing a business through a global pandemic - it certainly hasn't been easy, but I can't imagine a greater obstacle for the launch of a small business than the last two years has presented. I'm so proud that Geti has persevered, thanks to our loyal customers!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

They say imitation is the best form of flattery, and Geti has seen its fair share of copy-cat products by both big and small brands alike over the past few years. While these can sometimes feel like daggers to the heart, I take them with a grain of salt, knowing that more people are being exposed to clean products - & that's the goal.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Take an entrepreneurial/business course - there are SO many things you need to consider when you launch that you just don't think of without proper training.
  2. Invest in yourself and your business and save yourself $ in the long run. Don't try to do everything yourself.
  3. You might not be the best CEO for your business - founding a company and running it are two different things.
