Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health & fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Michaelangelo Gerardi, Founder of Gerardi Performance, located in Burlington, MA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I offer online personal training for busy professionals who want to SUSTAINABLY lose fat & build muscle WITHOUT giving up the foods they love or spending hours in the gym.

Tell us about yourself

My love for fitness started in high school. Once I started getting into a gym routine, I felt more energized, focused, and confident in my body. My passion for fitness turned into a passion for all-around health and wellness after suffering many injuries.

This led me to pursue my doctorate of physical therapy degree, which I have just one year left of school, to help my clients get out of pain and work out pain-free. My main focus is “optimizing my client’s body, mind, and well-being through training, therapeutic exercise, and nutrition.

My ideal client is anyone with a goal, a positive attitude, and a willingness to work hard. That’s it. Everybody is different, and everybody is different, so my personalized fitness programs cater to each client’s needs: no restrictive diets or 2-hour long workouts. I focus on SUSTAINABILITY.

Fitness, to me, isn’t just about building muscle and looking nice. It’s about building confidence, a personality, and life-long relationships with people who want to better themselves. Surrounding myself with positive people has helped me physically and mentally improve my life. You can find me out with my friends when I’m not in the gym, working, or studying, grabbing a drink or a bite to eat. It’s all about balance!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Helping thousands of people LOOK and FEEL their best- changing lives every day! I am also positioned to put food on the table for my employees, which is VERY rewarding.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Time management. Getting lost in your business and "brushing off" family/friend time is very easy. Being a trainer, I am in the service industry, so making sure my clients are always happy is stressful at times, but in the end, it's always worth it.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do not wait for the perfect time. Start now.
  2. Do not try to be perfect when you first start. It will take years to master your craft.
  3. Go above and beyond what your services provide. Make your clients happy, and they will reward you tenfold.
