Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Gerald Gowe, Owner of Golden Palm Massage & Wellness Inc., located in Edmonton, AB, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Golden Palm Massage and Wellness is a wellness clinic that was founded on the principle that excellence comes through specialization and client care. We pay attention to the client experience, always looking to provide high-quality in all of our services. You can always expect a professional therapist committed to your well-being and friendly, knowledgeable staff whose intent is your wellness, recovery, and relaxation. Customers range from office workers to those in the trades to athletes to old retired people wanting to relax or be able to move again.

Tell us about yourself

What got me started in the business was wanting to take care of my aging parents as they started to struggle with everyday tasks. After going through school to gain the knowledge necessary, their care from them began, and it finished with success. Seeing people ecstatic that they can move again is the reason why I continue to do what I do in this field.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Surviving covid-19. Many of my peers had also started their own practice but didn't do their due diligence in aftercare or keep track of clients to make sure everyone was okay. That one thing helped me avoid so many hiccups and situations that I am very happy with myself for it.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Getting clientele is a lot harder nowadays, but having people trust that they are in good hands to come back will always be the challenge for a wellness clinic. I believe that once they come and get the proper treatment, they understand that we want them to heal properly and succeed in that journey of theirs.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Research all the laws in regards to your business and make sure all your documents are up to date and intact.
  2. Don't be afraid to ask for advice from mentors, other business owners, or people on the side of the street who may be busy, as they can give you another perspective on something you never thought about.
  3. Hold yourself accountable and complete the tasks you may have set for yourself but do not overwork yourself. Also, to understand that marketing is key to success now, and you should consider it in your investments when growing your business.
