Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Georgina Cannon, Author, Speaker, Lecturer, Hypnotist, Life Coach, Regression & Relationship Therapist, based in Toronto, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a regression therapist and relationship counselor; I help people find their magnificence!

In addition, I teach hypnosis and NLP at the University of Toronto and regression therapies privately. I'm also a best-selling author, The Third Circle Protocol - Your Relationship Contract is selling worldwide, and currently, social workers in the U.S. are using it with women's groups.

Tell us about yourself

My short version history ((grin)) I started as a journalist in England, then came to Canada, and became Toronto Life's first fashion editor. Then opened a public relations company which was purchased by Burson Marsteller (one of the world's largest PR companies). I eventually became Managing Director for Canada with four offices across Canada. In 1996 decided I'd had enough with the corporate world and wanted to work with people, not corporations. At that time, I studied Reiki, various forms of therapy, including Gestalt and Psycho Drama, and discovered hypnosis.

That changed the trajectory of my life! 1997 I opened the Ontario Hypnosis Centre, which became Canada's largest school and clinic. Ten years ago, I sold it, and sadly the person who purchased it let it fade away. Since then, I have written many books, some for the general public, some for the hypnosis professional, developed various workshops, and taught in the U.S., Europe, and Canada, including the University of Toronto. I also run free 30-minute meditation sessions on Zoom most Fridays, which are joined by folks from around the world. That's my service! My motivation is to see that light of awareness, of knowing the answers and the direction to go, show itself in my clients and students. So they may live a fulfilling life of love and respect for themselves, each other, and the planet.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment to date is doing what I love to do, teaching, seeing clients, and writing each and every day.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Remember who you have to keep happy with! Your bank manager! (Yes, it's a business and the bottom line has to show success). Your customer/client. Without happy customers, you have no business. And yourself. If you're not happy doing what you do, the stress will wear you down, and your business and health will fail.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Know EXACTLY what you are offering the marketplace. And be sure there is a market for it.
  2. Don't worry about competition; if you're good at what you do and build a strong and effective brand, customers will find their way to you.
  3. Being an entrepreneur is a 24-7 job. Doing the work. Marketing the work. Planning ahead.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

There is nothing more satisfying than living a life of benefit to your customer, the community, and to yourself. Suppose your goal doesn't include these three aspects. Re-think your goal!
