Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Georgia Lima, owner of Georgia Lima Natural Perfume, located in Longmont, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Georgia Lima Natural Perfume was born of my passion for wellness with a mission to inspire and support women through therapeutic botanical perfume. I have a collection of perfumes with an intention behind them, and I design custom-made perfumes, Bespoke, which I like to call “magical fragrances.” I have a small studio in my home near the mountains in Colorado where I craft small batches using ethically sourced, 100% plant-based, free of synthetics, mostly organic and wild-grown ingredients. I use raw materials such as essential oils, absolutes, resins, waxes, and extracts. My customers are mostly women who want to create a signature perfume that embodies who they are and use natural scents to feel supported in body, mind, and spirit. I work with men as well.

Tell us about yourself

When I was in my 20s, I developed an allergy to synthetic perfumes. Later, I studied Aromatherapy, and as a hobby, I created natural products, including perfumes for myself, family, and friends. In 2020, after being in business as a Massage Therapist for almost 30 years, I was ready for a change, and my perfume business was born. I have an obsession with natural, sustainable, and organic products and a commitment to the well-being and my own spiritual practice. What motivates me is to create beauty in the world and to connect with people on a deeper level. Creating a signature perfume gives me the opportunity to connect with women from all walks of life. I feel honored to be part of their journey.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Honestly, witnessing the joy and satisfaction of a customer when I find their perfect signature scent is what makes me very inspired and grateful as a business owner.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

For me, time management can be challenging. My business is my baby, and it requires great devotion, but it’s not the only thing I love. I have other interests, and it takes practice to be present with everything without having to sacrifice other areas of my life.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure you love what you do and don’t do it just for the money.
  2. Your business is not going to be for everyone. Don’t let disappointments get you down.
  3. If you find yourself overwhelmed with all that needs to be done, take a deep breath and do one thing at a time and do it well.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

It’s important to know the “why” behind your business and truly believe it. When you believe it, people believe it too. The mission and vision of the company are essential to convey the purpose behind the brand. Always count your victories, learn from your mistakes and have fun as much as you can, don’t take everything so seriously! As you grow as a person, your business may change a bit to reflect your growth, and that’s okay. There is always room for growth.
