What's your business, and who are your customers?
It is all about astrophotography. I teach how to capture beautiful space pictures of the stars and deep sky objects through videos, blog posts, and workshops.
Tell us about yourself.
At first, astrophotography was a hobby, and I was doing it for fun at the same time as my day job. It quickly became more than a hobby and slowly took over most of my time! I quit my job to work full-time on astrophotography content, and it is still entertaining. I love capturing new and beautiful images of space and helping others achieve similar results.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I am glad I succeeded after quitting my "safe" full-time job. That was a scary moment, but it all turned out great. The biggest accomplishment so far is the "Galactic Course," an ever-growing online course that teaches every aspect of astrophotography and now has many members.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Not having a regular, safe income, never knowing how much you will earn the next month, and staying mentally strong. Not having a boss is great, but it can also be an issue because you now have no one to push you and tell you to work. You have to say that to yourself!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- It's great when the business was originally a hobby because you will most likely always enjoy it.
- Take your time with quitting your job until you feel ready and confident.
- It's easy to never take breaks when working on your business, but be careful, as not taking breaks might lead to burnout.
