Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Pam Fullenweider, Founder of Fully Mediterranean, located in Houston, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Fully Mediterranean is where food, family, and living fully come together. We believe enjoying good food and taking care of your health aren’t mutually exclusive and, in fact, go hand in hand. The Mediterranean Diet is our foundation. We empower our clients to make realistic and sustainable food and lifestyle choices that prevent disease and promote long-term health and well-being. We help clients translate this approach to their own kitchen. Our recipes are flavorful, simple, and nutritious. With our help, everyone can learn to cook and eat the Mediterranean way!

Tell us about yourself

I am a registered dietitian and culinary nutritionist specializing in the Mediterranean Diet. I’m also a wife and mother of three. I love to cook, and I love my kitchen. My love for food and spending time in the kitchen is from my mother and grandmother. My grandmother grew up in New Orleans. Celebrating with food and family was always a part of life. We ate dinner together as a family and shared special meals on Sundays and holidays. My children are young adults and picked up the same love for good, nutritious food. We exchange recipes, hang out in the kitchen and believe the best food is often what you prepare with family and friends.

Food represents a sense of well-being and community for me. When I started my practice, nutrition was about deprivation, no fat, dieting, or counting calories. I worked with clients who made progress but never really felt like they could continue this way of eating long-term. They felt like steamed broccoli, and tasteless chicken were their only choices.

Thank goodness things have changed! Food can be healthy and taste great. I love the Mediterranean pattern of eating because it helps people understand that healthy, feel-good foods and rich flavors can leave you feeling energized and satisfied. The Mediterranean diet is a holistic, sustainable approach to eating. It incorporates nutrition, movement, and mindfulness. We nurture our bodies through our food choices. I am passionate about helping people meet their goals and live fully.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is the development of our course, Living Fully Mediterranean. It is dedicated to helping people live and thrive on the Mediterranean diet. We go beyond teaching you what the Mediterranean diet is - we teach you how to follow it.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing initially is wearing multiple hats. When I started my business, I was a content creator, marketing manager, social media manager, banker, photographer, and videographer.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

First, don’t wait for everything to be perfect. Get yourself and your product out there. I tell my clients that we are not looking for perfection; we are looking for progress. I had to take my own advice. Second, ask for help. 3. Trust yourself to know what is right for your business.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Your business is constantly changing and evolving, and so you must be willing to be adaptable and change with it. On a regular basis!
