Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Graciela Harris, Founder of Fruta & CO LLC. (Fruta Healthy Eating), located in Chandler, AZ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a casual eatery focusing on clean, all-natural ingredients. Our commitment to our community: Offer products that are good for you, that nourish yourself, and have a positive reaction in your body. Our customer is people who care about their overall health, people who have food sensitivities, people with specific diet such as vegan, paleo, and vegetarian, and people who love food and love to try clean, plant-based products.

Tell us about yourself

I created Fruta because I saw that there are lots of restaurants but very few that offer products that are good for you, clean and simple, like fruits and vegetables. I was a new mom looking for places where to find products with no fillers, no GMOs, etc. Knowing that our products help others with their needs, such as diets, sensitivities, allergies, and overall health is what keeps us motivated to keep working hard to offer the best.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Being one of the best clean eating shops in the Valley. The community we have created with our customers and the team members.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Working with a small budget is challenging. Having to wear different hats in one shift is exhausting.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Know your art, niche, or product very well. Save some money in other to start. Knock doors for help if you need it. Be consistent, and don't give up, the first five years are going to be difficult, but you will get there. Thrust the process and keep working towards your goal.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I was born and raised in Lima, Peru, met my husband ten years ago and decided to open my business four years ago. As Latina in a new country, I learn to push thru my fear and knock on doors for help to be able to achieve my goals. Do not settle for the first NO; keep looking for ways to get to the people who will help you to grow. You are not alone.
