Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Victoria Castellano, Owner of Frixtion Spa, located in Denver, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Frixtion Spa is a place to relax and find comfort at the same time addressing any needs my clients may have in order to achieve pain management. I have a background in injury rehab massage using neuromuscular techniques to aid in achieving clients' goals. I have always worked in a spa environment, so incorporating facials, body treatments, and waxing makes it feel like the complete spa experience. My curet customers are those who are looking for relief from everyday aches and pains.

Tell us about yourself

A little about myself I am a Wife, a Mother of 6 children, four boys and two girls, also a Denver native. I have lived in North Denver my whole life and attended north high school, so having my office across the street from North is really surreal. I have been doing massage for 22 years and esthetics for nine years. I am a very hard worker and eventually decided that I should be working as hard for myself as I do for my employer. I also wanted to put my own unique touches on my business. Growing my clientele gives me my everyday motivation to be a better version of myself every day and learn new things, whether in business or procedures.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is reaching milestones in my business. I've been in business for two years now, so building my clientele is something that continues to be something I work on every day, and I am proud to be growing all the time. Learning how to register my business and file paperwork was one of the big ones. It may seem small, but it is a huge accomplishment for me.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I feel like one of my biggest obstacles is not being so hard on myself when things are going slow or when I have a hard time understanding the business side of things, but then I remind myself that I am a brand new business owner and understanding and knowledge comes with time and a lot of patience. One of my biggest hurdles has been learning the way to reach my specific target market, being that marketing has not ever been my strong point, but I am learning new resources every day for marketing and using social media to reach a wider range of people.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Ask a lot of questions; ask small business owners a lot of them are willing to share their knowledge with you.
  2. Make sure you have a little business knowledge and take a small business class. There are places such as the library and community centers that have free classes on business.
  3. Don't be so hard on yourself. Everyone started somewhere. Don't compare yourself to others. Also, know that it does take time, so enjoy the slow time while you can.
