Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Praise Okwumabua, owner of Freshair Boutique, located in Winnipeg, MB, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are an eco-friendly hair salon with clients who see the value in reducing, reusing, and recycling.... among other things!

Tell us about yourself

I am a very creative person and love accomplishing tasks from start to finish. Hair is the most rewarding because I can make many changes to many people in one day! It's the ultimate in getting it done! It's usually a positive experience, and I love the challenge a new client provides. I love change and usually wear my hair in an array of styles... never-ending...

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Making it to 10 years!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Making decisions that benefit the shop and not necessarily my staff. It's hard for employees to see the big picture sometimes.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

What are you selling? Can it be done online? Are you ok not being liked? Are you good with doing the most work and getting the least credit? Your business goes as you go. Did you prepare to be the star employee? Also, do you even want employees to cause if you do, you'll need someone to manage them? Employees are tricky. That's more than three tips...

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

In all the craziness of these past few years, we need to remember that it's us, people, that make things happen. Let's not forget our human connections. Face to face is so important...
