Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Frédérik Nissen, Co-Founder of Montreal Craft Beer Tours, located in Montreal, QC, CA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We offer Montreal Craft Beer Tours and Food Walking Tours in Montreal and Quebec City. We host people from around the world and bring them to the best food, craft beer restaurants & bars in town.

Tell us about yourself

I had a classic Euro Trip when I was in my early twenties, and I had the chance to visit many interesting cities. In every hostel I went to, they were some promotions for walking tours and other activities, and I got really hooked. I fell in love with the world of activities and experiences. A few years later, my roommate and I started offering walking tours in Montreal, which eventually started to grow very fast. My colleague and I are motivated to create unique experiences that people will love to join. We see our tours as theatre pieces, and we are very attentive to details.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I would say our marketing efforts have always been very strong. Our company has a blog that 2M viewers visit per year. For a tour company, it is pretty rare.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I would say the pandemic was quite hard for a craft beer tour operator!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Start the soonest.
  2. Get out of your comfort zone.
  3. Perseverance is the bread and butter of starting a company.
