Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in training and education but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Enid Franklin, Founder of Franklin Homeschool Services, located in Upper Marlboro, MD, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are Franklin Homeschool Services, and our customers are homeschooling families. We can provide consulting and coaching to families regardless of how long they've been homeschooling. We are also launching an online homeschool portfolio service at myportfoliopage.net.

Tell us about yourself

I homeschooled my three children for 14 years. All three are currently away at college. One of the many things I love about homeschooling is researching and preparing my kids' work for the upcoming year. So, as I prepared my empty nest, I figured this would be a chance to use my knowledge, expertise, and love of research to help other families create their personalized educational plans.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

There's no greater feeling than hearing a mom or dad say, "I feel so much better now. Thank you!" I enjoy helping people and showing them that they have options when it comes to educating their children.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The actual business of it all. Dealing with accounting, insurance, taxes, etc., makes it difficult.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be passionate about your venture. It takes a lot of work to start a business. If you're only lukewarm on your idea, the bumps you'll encounter won't feel worth it.
  2. Find a sound support system. You'll need it.
  3. Do your research. Know your market.
