Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Francisco Rios, Principal at Tribe Design LLC., located in Houston, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We help B2B (business-to-business) companies develop their visual branding and execute their marketing campaigns (both print and digital).

Tell us about yourself

I am a self-described introvert with a passion for graphic design. I couldn't find a job when I graduated, so I made a position for myself. I'm so fortunate to do what I love (design and create) every day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I'm very proud that we've been in business for nearly 30 years. I've seen our industry evolve (from traditional to digital marketing), and we've been able to adapt to stay competitive.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I think one of the hardest things that come with owning a design studio is educating prospects on the value of investing in your brand image. Can visual appearance close the deal? We know it can.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Rome wasn't built in a day so stay focused. It takes time to let people know who you are, what you do, and why they should hire you.
  2. You have to put in more time than you would if you were working for someone else, so be prepared to make sacrifices.
  3. In today's competitive environment, providing great service can mean the difference between success and failure.
