Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Francesca Ortepi, Founder of Francesca The Nutritionist, located in Etobicoke, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a holistic nutritionist and wellness coach practitioner. My customers are busy professionals and stay-at-home moms who do not have time to spend hours in the gym or follow some crazy restricted diet or meal plan that deters them from sticking to the program.

Tell us about yourself

I started this journey due to my own personal health and digestive issues. I suffer from ulcerative colitis, celiac disease, lactose intolerant, and a slew of allergies and food aversions. So finding something to help me stay healthy and not on a "diet" was important to me. By learning how to use food to heal and help the body, I aided my father in prolonging his life through food for almost a full 7 months. My father's journey and his strength as he lost his battle with cancer is my drive. My patients are my drive. I get so excited when I get to see how happy my patients become and how stunned they are about their dramatic weight loss all through food and no exercise. This is my passion, and I strive to help people build healthy relationships with food and start to understand how they can turn their bodies into fat-burning machines for life!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is the success of my patients. Seeing their lives transform right before my eyes and how it helps heal people not just physically but also mentally.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Everyone thinks being a business owner; we can make our own hours and operate by our own drum, which is true. But people do not see all the hours and days we are working to ensure it succeeds and that our customers or patients receive the utmost care. On top of that, keeping the business alive and fresh. Referrals and word of mouth are huge as a business owner, and everyone who helps us out with their confidence in me goes a long way.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do your research and make sure you are educated and an expert in your niche or field.
  2. Do not give up. Being a business owner takes dedication, time, and sweat. Things do not happen overnight. Sometimes an overnight success has taken over 3-4 years to get to that point.
  3. Continue to learn, and do not be afraid to ask people for help. Entrusting in the right people can truly help grow your business to the next level.
