Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Fran Murray, owner of Fran Murray Co., located in Mississauga, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My desire to spread LOVE throughout the world led to the creation of Fran Murray Co., a lifestyle brand that's purpose is to inspire and motivate those caught up in the busyness of life to PAUSE and CELEBRATE the everyday. I bake done for you decadent and bougie desserts, create baking tutorials and offer motibaking workshop facilitation.

Tell us about yourself

Everyone deserves to feel seen, loved, and treated like they matter. If we can keep this top of mind during the interactions we have with each other, we can make the world a better place. Connection is one of our basic and fundamental human needs. I wanted my name associated with a movement that has, at its core, the desire to make a change that really matters. What matters more than giving people what they crave the most? What do people crave? Love just pure and simple, love. But this is a dessert company, right? Yes, lol. I own a dessert company that helps people send love in boxed form. I am truly blessed to be able to make a tangible and necessary change in the lives of many.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment to date is realizing that the how is not up to me. Realizing that all I have to do is put one foot in front of the other and the how has a way of figuring itself out.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is staying out of your own way. If you are a solopreneur, which means you are the bookkeeper, operations manager, sales representative, marketing director, customer service representative, etc...., clearing space for developing and executing your strategic vision can be very difficult.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Top three tips I would give anyone looking to either start, run or grow a business today:

  1. Believe in your product, mission or cause first and foremost and be choosy as to who you share your ideas with. Not everyone will understand your concepts, cause, or mission. You have to be ok with that.
  2. Seek out a community of fellow entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurship can be fulfilling and lonely at times.
  3. Find a mentor. This will help you rise above the entrepreneurship/social media chatter and love on your tribe the way they need you to love on them.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Making money is great, and all, but I challenge you to focus first and foremost on the solution to the problem your tribe has. Love on your tribe, and they will love you back. The feeling you get from making an impact in their lives surpass any possible monetary return. The money will come. Focus on the people you are meant to serve first and foremost.
