What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a Clinical Psychologist with a private practice, and I own a drug treatment center. I work with Adolescents and couples in my practice. I work with alcohol and drug addicts at my treatment center.
Tell us about yourself
I decided to become a psychologist because I had a hard time as an adolescent. I wanted to help other adolescents during this difficult time. I also found that I enjoyed working with couples and helping them improve their communication. I have been in private practice since 1996. Yes, I’m very young. LOL. I started working more in Addiction after I got divorced and felt it was a population that needed a lot of support. I ended up opening my drug treatment center in 2017.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is being able to balance a drug treatment center and my private practice and have a personal life.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The hardest thing about being a business owner is being responsible for other people, which includes patients and employees. I have had to learn how to manage people, which is not an easy thing to do.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Delegate as much as you can. Only you can run your business, but other people can work in your business.
- Know the ins and outs of your business before you open your own. This can include working under someone else in your business or interviewing other business owners.
- Dream big, and don’t let anyone stop you from pursuing your passion.
