Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Darnell Morgan, owner of Forks & Flavors, located in Kennesaw, GA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a full-service restaurant located in Kennesaw, GA. Our customers are anyone who wants to have Great Food matched with a Great Time!

Tell us about yourself

My husband initially started making me Mac & Cheese, and I told him he should sell it by the pan. Eventually, Forks & Flavors was started. We began catering, and seven years later, we opened our restaurant. His love & passion for cooking and my love and passion for entertaining is our daily motivation. There is NEVER a dull moment at "The Fork"!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Being able to create and maintain community relationships with colleges and organizations. We have a scholarship program that has been around for three years, and it continues to grow with every partnership we have.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Trying to make it all happen on your own. Yes, we have an amazing management team, but we are the only owners. What we do impacts 30 lives daily. So trying to make sure it all works on a daily basis is tough, but with time it will become easier.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Makes sure you have a passion and love for what you do. The days are long, and so are the hours. Every day is a different grind, and you must have a passion for doing it every day.
  2. Research your market! Look at the trends in your area. Don't be afraid to step outside your location and area to seek new clients and ideas.
  3. BRAND YOURSELF LEGALLY. A lot of people think having an LLC, EIN, County Business License, etc., is owning your brand. You do not own your brand until you trademark your brand. We are currently fighting for the rights to Forks and Flavors because someone did not do their proper research when naming one of their products.
