What's your business, and who are your customers?

Flux Hair Co. is a salon in Tukwila, WA, where we specialize in helping people achieve their hair goals, primarily through blonding and hair extensions. Our clients are always keeping up with the current trends, which keeps us constantly learning and evolving in our artistry.

Tell us about yourself

I've always had a passion for all things beauty. I began my journey in the beauty industry in 2015 when I became a licensed esthetician. Shortly afterward, I started working for MAC Cosmetics, where my passion for color grew more and more. I loved that my job was to make people feel beautiful, so I decided to take it a step further and get my cosmetology license. After attending the Gene Juarez Academy of beauty, I graduated in 2016 and started assisting at a salon, where I later became a stylist. After a year and a half, I knew I was ready to take a leap of faith and opened Flux Hair Co in 2018. Flux means 'a constant state of change,' and in 2018, I was experiencing a lot of change in both my professional and personal life, so it was only natural to name my new salon home, Flux.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Hiring a mentee and training her has been the most rewarding thing for me. Watching her grow and become an amazing stylist makes me feel very happy.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing is that you don't ever clock out. You are working around the clock, and you must wear many different hats to get your business running smoothly, especially at the beginning.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Be willing to work hard, always. It'll be worth it. Create lasting relationships with your clients; building trust makes clients want to stay with you. Always be thankful and appreciative of whatever stage you are in your business. As you grow in the industry, you'll realize how amazing every stage was, even the ones that seemed impossible at the time.
