Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in training and education but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ingmar Gorman, Co-Founder and CEO of Fluence, located in Woodstock, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

As a clinical psychologist and co-founder of Fluence, our business is centered on psychedelic therapy training. Our students are mental health professionals who are interested in integrating psychedelic-assisted therapies into their practice. We provide evidence-based education, training, and support to help therapists develop the necessary skills and knowledge to safely and effectively guide clients through the transformative process of psychedelic-assisted therapy. Our approach is rooted in science, ethics, and compassion, with a focus on supporting the therapeutic potential of psychedelics for healing and personal growth.

Tell us about yourself

Fluence is the culmination of my passion for psychedelic therapy and my commitment to advancing its responsible and ethical practice. My journey as a clinical psychologist and researcher in the field of psychedelic-assisted therapies inspired me to co-found Fluence. What motivates me every day is witnessing the profound and transformative impact of psychedelic therapy on individuals' lives, as well as the growing interest and demand for evidence-based training among mental health professionals. I am driven by the belief that psychedelic therapy has the potential to revolutionize mental health care, and I am committed to equipping therapists with the knowledge and skills they need to provide safe, effective, and compassionate care to their clients.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Since its founding in 2019, Fluence has trained thousands of mental health professionals in evidence-based psychedelic therapy practices, making it a significant accomplishment for our team. Additionally, we are proud to be one of the first programs to receive accreditation from the Oregon Health Authority to provide trainings for psilocybin practitioners under Measure 109.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The ever-evolving regulatory landscape surrounding psychedelic therapies requires us to navigate complex and changing regulations to ensure compliance and provide safe and ethical training. Additionally, the dynamic nature of psychedelic research and therapeutic practices demands constant refinement and updating of our training materials to align with the latest evidence-based practices. Furthermore, the increasing demand for psychedelic therapy training presents a constant challenge in scaling our organization to meet the needs of mental health professionals seeking education in this emerging field. Despite these challenges, we remain committed to our mission of providing high-quality, evidence-based education to support the responsible and ethical integration of psychedelics into clinical practice.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

As a co-founder of Fluence, I would recommend anyone starting and growing a business in the field of psychedelic therapy training to stay informed and adaptable to changes, prioritize ethics and integrity, and build a strong team. Also, stay updated with the latest research, regulations, and best practices, uphold ethical standards, and foster a positive work culture. Lastly, surround yourself with a capable team who shares your vision, empowers them, and delegates responsibilities.
