What's your business, and who are your customers?

FlowFit is a community-focused yoga and fitness studio. We've got a little something for everyone and also a wide enough variety that you can achieve ALL of your fitness, wellness, and mindfulness goals in one place. FlowFit's mission is to prove to individuals what they are capable of through the exploration of unique & exciting movements, challenging classes, and engaging techniques. Become your most confident and centered self with the support of an incredible community.

Tell us about yourself

My business partner and I came from different backgrounds and came together to form a perfect blend of everything we find important in the yoga and fitness world. I spent six years teaching yoga classes all over the twin cities, learning what deeply drives individuals to start and maintain a yoga practice. Yoga has been my passion ever since I took my first class, and I felt the profound effects it had on me outside of just my physical body. Ashlee, on the other hand, has a background in management and used to run Title Boxing in Woodbury, MN.

She learned that what kept people coming back was a powerful sense of community and comradery. FlowFit really gives you the best of everything we have learned over the years. We've got incredibly thoughtful and educational classes, workshops to help you learn more about your body and mind, and community events that build long-lasting friendships and a support system. Every day, we show up in the hopes that we can help one more person feel the power of this magical practice and space.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The fact that something so beautiful was born during the pandemic is a huge sense of pride to me. During frightening times we chose to build something that makes people feel whole again, and that is the biggest accomplishment I could ever have imagined.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I think balance can be the biggest challenge. It's easy to go off the deep end when you are so passionate about what you do and feel like you can always be doing more. The partnership Ashlee and I have helped with that immensely, and we work to remind each other of the importance of this balance on a regular basis!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be sure you know your "why," and it will drive every decision you make in an authentic direction.
  2. Take time to find the right location for your offering.
  3. Risk = Reward, so step into it full force and know that there will be SO many ups and downs. Keep following your "why," and the rest will fall into place!
