Homemade Resin Crafts - Flo's Earthship

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jasmine Dunn, Owner of Flo's Earthship, located in Denver, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business name is Flo's Earthship, and I do all things flowers! Resin is my medium, and I started by doing resin art, like making floral trays, ashtrays, and wall art. My business has since expanded to preserving wedding flower bouquets, and this is where my passion really is.

Tell us about yourself

I'm a resin artist that started my craft during the pandemic after having so much time to explore. I started in October 2020 and quit my job in March 2021 to invest fully in myself and my art! I'm inspired by nature - specifically trees and flowers. Their vibrant colors and sacred geometry drive my use of color and patterns. I'm also inspired by my spirituality, exploring my mind and the human experience. I have many modes and identities, and I love that my art is able to reflect that.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner was being able to quit my job to pursue art full-time for two years! I eventually got burnt out and got back into the work field, but I still LOVE fulfilling my evenings with floral preservations and having my business on the side.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing about being a business owner is the fluctuation in orders. Sometimes I'm so slammed I don't have time for anything else. Other times, business is so slow I can start to question having a business! It's a delicate balance, and I'm extremely grateful for it.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Just start! You have no idea where an idea might take you.
  2. Be consistent. And that doesn't mean sharing, posting, and promoting every day. Consistency looks different for everyone. Find what works for you.
  3. Follow other business owners and build relationships! Fostering relationships in the art world is what has brought me the most success.
