Tell us about yourself
I'm a wife, mother, and lover of movement. I have a background in business and fitness. After experiencing some big health challenges, I decided to focus on my health, family, and building out my studio. I wanted to create a place where everyone could feel comfortable, be taken care of at whatever level they are at, and be challenged and motivated daily. Being motivated, I feel, is a decision, not necessarily a feeling that's always there. I love what I do. I love being able to help make an impact in my community and as many lives as possible. It's a blessing to be able to help others help themselves!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I built this studio just over 8 years ago with a lot of blood, sweat, and tears throughout the process. I was in labor when I signed the lease for my building... my water broke in TRX class with my second baby... and managing being a new mom, building an amazing business in my community, and doing much of the work by myself was challenging. Going through the challenges as a small business owner during COVID, especially in the fitness industry, was extremely challenging. Fitness studios, no matter how large or small they were, were the first to close and last to reopen. It impacted my studio and me financially and will for years to come. I'm proud of the fact that we were able to stay in business and are still here!
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Not taking things too personally. That's hard for me as there's not a day that goes by that I'm not working or thinking about all aspects of my business and client experience. How others feel matters to me! My studio is my first baby, so it's hard sometimes to not take things too personal and give myself grace and recognize all my accomplishments without criticizing myself.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Everything happens for an opportunity, not for a reason. Keeping a healthy, positive mindset helps when challenges arise. Don't compare your win to someone else's. This is your story, own it and enjoy it! Work hard, and support others.
