What's your business, and who are your customers?
Five and Fly is a business helping separating military officers transition out of the military more fluidly and efficiently. More importantly, with a focus on helping those officers land fit into the small and medium-sized business worlds. Our customers are active-duty military officers.
Tell us about yourself
I, like many other officers who transition out of the military into corporate civilian life, faced the daunting task of making decisions, filtering through all the information, and ultimately creating a clear, concise plan to separate from the military and land a compatible job.
I created this company to walk alongside active-duty military officers who are doing just that while also building a tribe for vets to be a part of and belong to in order to have a support system along the way. Separating from the military is hard, and those individuals going through that experience need all the help they can get.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Creating the It'll buff podcast, where I have one-on-one conversations with vets who have already transitioned out of active duty service. We share all the dos and don'ts to help those who are behind us have a better and more fulfilling experience.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The constant worry and anxiety of "am I doing enough to help these individuals?" or "is the service I'm providing effective enough to make a difference in the world?"
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Have a mission statement, values, and, most important, a clear and concise "why" as to why you are operating a company. Business ownership is very hard and will break you down. Your "why" is what drives you through all the crucibles you will face.
