Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tania Gustafson, Owner and Founder of FIT Nutrition, located in Kelowna, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My company is called FIT Nutrition. The majority of my clients are women, although I have worked with a fair number of men as well too.

Tell us about yourself

I've been active in the health and fitness industry since 1986, when I got started as a fitness instructor and personal trainer. Nutrition has always been a passion as I've seen what making simple changes can do, or not do, for your health over time. I've seen people in my own family who made positive health changes and are reaping the benefits well into retirement. And I have seen those who chose not to or perhaps didn't believe the change would make a difference suffer from a number of issues. Some, unfortunately, are no longer with us. I know that no matter where you are in your health journey or at what age you start, you can make changes and reap the benefits. It's because of this that I am passionate about sharing the formula for living your best health while also living with food freedom.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Starting my own company in my 40s, with no formal business training, while working full-time as a special needs educator with two of my three children still living at home, plus two international students also living with us, and having it grow (albeit slowly), thrive and survive through Covid.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Working on the business when my passion is working with clients, speaking, and just putting out information and content, giving people hope that they can take back control of their health.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find your niche in something you're passionate about.
  2. Delegate and outsource. You can't do everything - you'll try, trust me - but you can't. So delegate and outsource those things that you're not good at, don't enjoy, or when you're time could bring a better ROI doing something else.
  3. Align yourself with those who share your vision and values.
