What's your business, and who are your customers?
Fine Line Flag is an online business specializing in embroidered flags and flag-inspired products. Flags are a way for people to express themselves and show support for the causes they believe in. So our customers come from everywhere and anywhere, and we support them in any way we can.
Tell us about yourself
After a career as a floor trader in Chicago, I wanted to continue working for myself. E-commerce offered a low barrier to entry (or so it seemed) and unlimited upside. The daily challenge is to build something of value.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Creating a brand from scratch that values the customer experience above all else. When the business faces challenges, I just remind myself of all the individuals we have touched in some small way.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Many hats. Accounting, finance, marketing, fulfillment, etc. Tools and competitors are always getting sharper, so I must be evolving as well.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Don't stop. Every effort results in some success. Even a pure failure or misstep is a lesson. So keep moving forward and be open to new opportunities. It's not a straight path to success, but the market (customers) will show you the way - be open, listen, and re-evaluate.
