Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ramona Cedeno, Founder and CEO of FiBrick, located in Mahopac, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

FiBrick is a boutique accounting practice that aims to empower business owners and entrepreneurs by providing them with clarity around financial performance. We achieve this through customized and personalized bookkeeping, tax, and fractional CFO services.

Tell us about yourself

I am passionate about money, numbers, and financial confidence. This passion led me to build a career in accounting and finance, get the CPA and CFP certifications, start my accounting practice, and write my first book Simple Choices Big Rewards in Money. I want this passion to help others feel confident and empowered financially at the personal and business levels. This motivates me to start each day and do what I love.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I took the plunge and started my business with no customer in sight and the uncertainty of what the future as a business owner will bring. I have created dozens of jobs for young accountants. I have helped hundreds of business owners improve profitability for their businesses and, as a result, improve their personal finances.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Make the tough decision somes of letting go of someone who is not the right fit for your mission. That can be an employee, a client, or a vendor. It's tough, especially when you are a people person. However, holding on to someone that does not align with your values and the values of the company might eventually cause more damage than good to you, your company, and them.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Ask for help and advice. The sooner you recognize your weaknesses or areas of improvement, the sooner you will move towards improvement and solutions.
  2. Aim to be the best at what you do, and the point is not really to be the best but that this will keep you improving and prevent you from ever becoming stagnant.
  3. Be ready to shift and adapt. Nothing in business is staying the same these days, and your ability to keep up with change will increase your chances of success.
