Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Brianna Breshears, Owner of Fencepost and Co., located in Woodburn, OR, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is a country general store with a little of something for everyone, older generations, men, women, dogs, and children.

Tell us about yourself

My friend told me to start making leather earrings about five years ago, I did it for about two years and then invested $500 into inventory for Fencepost and Co. Since then, I have attended markets and built a storefront and an online website. I have traveled to probably over 50 markets in the last two years. I chose fenceposts name because as a kid I was always told to work hard for what I wanted, and when I think of a hard worker, I think of my grandpa Frankie. He's such a go-getter even in his old age, always willing to lend a hand when needed, working hard, kind, and caring. Not only is he all of those things, but he too had his own business custom spraying farmer's fields and has his own cattle. With those cattle came fences, and those fences don't stay up or keep the cattle in without a fencepost. So fencepost came to mind when choosing my store name. Without a fencepost, you don't have the fences to hold the cattle in, and fencepost accompanies many other small businesses along the way to help them grow as well. So Fencepost is that hard-working business that helps and keeps everyone working toward their goals, just like my grandpa Frankie.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is hitting 6 figures in my first full year in a storefront while putting on 19 events and traveling to 15 events in one year. I bought my own car last year, a cargo trailer, and a shed for me to store things in and work out of.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

It's never consistent, and that can make you want to quit at any time. You also have to use your time wisely and be self-motivated. Also, something I love but is hard is that you are always working on some portion of your business to improve it.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Have a plan, keep going, and be true to yourself.
