Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Joany Gauvreau, Founder & Instructor of Feminicity®, located in Biloxi, MS, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I teach BellyDance, and my students are primarily women between the ages of 16 and 75. If you’re willing to try something different for yourself, this might be a life-changer.

Tell us about yourself

I was learning to BellyDance at a time in my life when I had to change, or I will stay depressed. So I self-taught BellyDance, which positively shifted my body and mind and motivated me to share it with other women in my community.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

It is to be self-employed, to work for myself. I love creating, and being solely responsible for my life is empowering.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

At one time, I was to have staff. Sometimes, finance was very low, and it scared me if I didn't have funds to pay them, which I always fully paid, but the stress was overwhelming.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have passion and love what you do because when times are complex, you might lose everything.
  2. Remember why you started the business.
  3. Let money not be your true inspiration. Let it be the love of your mission.
